3500/20 is a Framework Interface Module (RIM) that is the basic interface to the 

3500 framework and supports Bentley Nevada's proprietary protocol for framing 

and retrieving information from the unit.

The module must be placed in the first slot in the frame (next to the power supply). 

It has an RS-232 serial interface, which can be connected with the host for data 

acquisition and frame configuration, the baud rate is 38.4K, and the cable length is 

30m. In addition, it also has RS-232/RS-422 serial interface, which can also be 

connected to the host for data acquisition and frame configuration, baud rate of 38.4K, 

cable length: 30m for RS-232, 1200m for RS-422. The RS-422 interface also enables 

multiple 3500 frames to communicate with the 3500 host software in a Daisy chain connection.

RIM modules have a variety of functions, including:

Provides interfaces for configuring racks and retrieving machine information.

Supports multiple communication protocols, such as BentlyNevada Special Protocol, 

Transient Data Interface External (TDIX), and Dynamic Data Interface External (DDIX).

Relay interfaces for locomotive unloading, alarm, sanding, emergency braking, automatic brake 

removal and penalty braking.

In three-module redundancy (TMR) applications, the "monitor channel comparison" function 

is performed.

If the critical monitoring path provided by the RIM module fails, it may affect the normal operation 

of the entire system.
