Details
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM is a direct communication module. The module is part of Allen-Bradley’s Remote I/O (RIO) series of adapters in the SLC 500 family. The application for this module is similar to that of a PLC-5. It distributes the SLC-500 processor located on the Allen-Bradley RIO Communication Link and lets them transfer data between each other. Each SLC 500 Controller can be connected to the Allen-Bradley Programmable Controller via the RIO Link, providing a distributed processing system. This DCM occupies 1 slot in any 500 SLC chassis. The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM is an RIO adapter for a PLC processor with integral RIO scanners on the RIO Communication Link. It is also an adapter for RIO scanner.
To configure the DCM for your application, you need to set the DIP switch. This switch allows the DCM to interpret the RIO system address correctly. The DCM has 2 DIP switch banks installed on its circuit board. Each bank contains 8 switches. The 1747-DCM uses the Belden 9463 cable. The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM’s operating temperature range is 32-140 °F while the storage temperature is -40-185 °F with a relative humidity of 5-95% non-condensing. The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM complies with the NEMA standard ICS 2-230, EN50081-2 Class A, IEC1000-4-2, and IEC1000-4-3 certification and it is CSA-certified.
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM is a Direct Communication module that is compatible for use with the SLC 500 Fixed style and Modular style Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). This module allows any SLC 500 controller to establish connection to Remote I/O (RIO) industrial network.
The 1747-DCM is a single slot module with a backplane current consumption of 360 milliamperes @ 5 Volts DC. As an assembly, it comes with status LED indicators such as FAULT LED and COMM LED. It has a removable door cover, pre-installed with the door label. The module’s front panel hosts the front label, cable tie slots, and the RIO link connector. At the side of the module, module information as well as DIP switches can be accessed.
The 1747-DCM supports a variety of communication speed and may be operated at standard and extended node capability. With extended capability, the module may be configured with a transmission rate of 57.6K baud @ 10,000 feet at 57.6K baud; 115.2K baud @ 5,000 feet at 115.2K baud and 230.4K baud @ 2,500 feet at 230.4K baud with 82 Ohms, 1/2 Watt terminating resistor installed at the start and last node. With standard node capability, supported transmission rates are 57.6K baud @ 3048 meters (10,000 feet) and 115.2K baud @ 1524 meters (5,000 feet) with 150 Ohm, ½ Watt terminating resistor. Also supported is 230.4K baud @ 762 meters (2,500 feet) with 82 Ohms, 1/2 Watt terminating resistor.
